S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia is a school affiliated with the Anglican Church of Ceylon offering an all-round education to boys from Nursery to Advanced Levels, with many sports offerings and a rich heritage in Rugby since 1955.
The first school to play Cricket in Sri Lanka introduced Rugby in 1955 under Warden Rev. Canon R S De Saram. Since then, STC has produced many outstanding performances in the field of Rugby.
S.Thomas’ Rugby has taken part in all major Sri-Lanka schools rugby tournaments since its inception and has a proud record of winning league and knock-out championships many times in its illustrious history, including the inaugural schools’ rugby knock-out tournament in 1978.
STC Rugby holds the record for the longest winning streak in Sri Lanka rugby history, being unbeaten for 47 games from 1989-1992 under the legendary coach Mr. Quentin Israel (Late)
We rejoice in victory,
When our foes we beat,
We have learnt, when fortune frowns
How to take defeat,
All unfriendly rivalry
From our lives we bar
To the College therefore sing
For all we have and are. Esto Perpetua
In the field of intellect
Many a prize we’ve won,
And upon the field of sport
Thomians yield to none.
Be it work, or be it play,
We will do and dare.
To the College therefore sing
For all we have and are. Esto Perpetua
S. Thomas’ College is therefore much more than just a school. It is an institution rich in tradition, characterized by more than one and a half centuries of hard work, dedication and achievement, all imbibed with the legendary Thomian Spirit. A pioneering institution which has understood and nurtured the very best in youth; where mere boys went in and great men came out to be “men and gentlemen always”, men who beat the odds with the legendary “Thomian grit” and gentlemen who upheld the motto of the school
